Jalopnik launches Tempest: true American car stories

  • Jalopnik, which claims to be the internet’s most-read car site, launches a podcast today. It’s called Tempest, and features true American car stories.

  • Steve Pratt of Pacific Content gives five reasons why your company should not make a branded podcast. “Not many people will voluntarily download an infomercial. Even fewer will do it more than once.”

  • The CBC in Canada are #1 in the Canadian iTunes charts with Missing and Murdered: Finding Cleo. Cleo and all of her siblings were separated when thousands of Indigenous children were taken from their homes, put in foster care and adopted out to white families across North America; she went missing - presumed murdered - while trying to hitch-hike back to Canada; the podcast is an investigation into what happened.

  • The Post in Athens OH, USA points out that longform podcasts are succeeding in captivating the audience.

  • APM’s podcast In The Dark returns for a new series. Series one was in late 2016, and attracted twelve million downloads; the team got a Peabody award. It returns for season two on May 1.

  • MouthMedia Network is recording a new set of live podcast experiences with fashion and beauty executives. They’re recording in co-working venue Spring Place in Tribeca, New York NY.

  • The Australian Commercial Radio Awards this year, for the first time, has three podcast categories. Joan Warner, CEO of Commercial Radio Australia, says: “Radio is now once again leading the way in producing and commissioning original, cutting-edge podcasts on topics ranging from arts and comedy to social commentary, sport, health and politics. Radio is key to driving the future success of the podcast sector.” You need to be a CRA member to enter.

  • The BBC has launched Kench, a comedy podcast from youth station BBC Radio 1. Ray Moss: No Stone Unturned is the first programme in the podcast. The programme also gets a broadcast on the radio, though you’re unlikely to hear it unless you’re awake at 3.00am this Thursday.

  • Jim Ross, former host of Podcast One’s The Ross Report which disappeared in January, has joined US broadcaster Westwood One’s podcast network. The programme will be re-branded The Jim Ross Report.
