RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — When you turn on the radio now-a-days it seems like the same songs are always playing on repeat.

But one new, locally owned station is trying to change the mode and bring back the music that never gets played. Boomtown Richmond is a homegrown radio station that wants to get away from the “corporate feel” of radio.

Nick Conigliaro reports for 8News.

Besides their on-air side, the station is also located inside the Regency Square Mall where shoppers can literally walk by and see them bringing the music over the air-waves.

Mornings and Program Manager Jeff McKee tells 8News the main audience is baby boomers, but they’re also seeing the children are also grabbing ahold of this concept and enjoying it. But this is really to get everyone to “fall back in love with music.”

“We are part of the community, come on in; you are more than welcome,” said McKee. “Come on in to Tie Dye Way, and you’re in Boomtown. It’s sort of an alternate reality cause music, good music is like a drug it makes you feel good with no side effects. So, that’s really what we’re trying to offer.”

If you’d like to listen to Boomtown you can tune in North of Richmond on 92.9 FM, and South of Richmond on 94.1 FM. You can also listen online at boomtownrichmond.com. If you like what you hear McKee says, make sure you tell people.
