TalkRADIO broadcaster James Whale, 69, has revealed he is fighting cancer of his brain, spine, kidney and lungs after he was diagnosed two weeks ago. The radio presenter, who now hosts alongside Ash Gould, has given an update on his health, saying he considered "booking a trip" to Dignitas.

James' devastating diagnosis comes two years after his wife Belinda died of lung cancer.

The radio legend also had one of his kidneys removed after discovering a tumour 20 years ago.

"This little b*****d has spread," he began.

"It’s in my remaining kidney. I’ve got a couple of small lesions in my lungs.

"I’ve got it in my brain.”

The broadcaster is well known for his late-night radio series, The James Whale Radio Show, which was initially broadcast on Radio Air in Leeds and ITV in the 1980s.

James - who starred in Celebrity Big Brother back in 2016 - was believed to be feeling unwell for a year until he decided to get himself checked out and had been forgetting names on air.

Recalling his haematologist's words, the star revealed: "The woman looked worried and she said, ‘I’m so sorry. I’ve got really, really bad news for you. I’m afraid 20 years ago you had kidney cancer. Well, it looks like it’s probably come back. You’ve got a tumour on your kidney.’"

James went on to say: "And I thought, ‘OK, well, 20 years later I’ll have to do it all over again.’

"And then she said, ‘I’m sorry. Sadly it’s spread. You’ve got small lesions in your brain and your lung, in your spine, in your pituitary gland.’”

The radio host then opened up about his initial reaction was to look into euthanasia at Dignitas - the Swiss organisation which provides assisted and accompanied suicide.

"I came home, had a little think about things. I decided I’m just booking myself a trip to Dignitas. You might as well just go and get it over with," he admitted.

However, James hopes to return to presenting by taking pills, meaning he can avoid chemotherapy.

Fans have taken to Twitter to express their thoughts over James' news tonight.

One tweeted: "Keep fighting James. The mic is ready when you are..."

A friend of James's went on to share: "This man is a true radio legend.

"I have the highest possible regard for his skill and professionalism.

"In the short while I was proud to be his boss, I found out he was a fighter," they continued.

"Good luck @THEJamesWhale in your ongoing battle. We love you!"
